Bodyweight As An Indicator of Sleep Disorder

Overweight people are more prone to all kinds of diseases. There are number of things which bother you when you have too much weight, like your clothes don't fit you well, maybe you suffer from back ache and you could feel very lazy. It can even lead to loss of confidence if you have more than required weight. It is not that people don't try to lose weight, but somehow nothing seems to work on them. And of course with extra weight your body is prone to high blood pressure as well as heart problems. To top it all it can also give you a lot of sleeping problems also. Many of us may not be aware but one of the major reasons for death among people who are overweight is sleep apnea. The extra fat is capable of killing a person just by going off to sleep.

You should consider sleep apnea seriously as it is a medical condition which can even turn fatal if treatment is not done on time. The person tends to wake up from sleep frequently as due to sleep apnea the windpipe constantly collapses which leads to shortness of breath. Most of these people feel sleepy during the day and are prone to depression and poor performance at their jobs. The most common and scary part of this condition is that you just stop breathing every few minutes when you are asleep at night.

The movement of air gets blocked due to extra skin at the hind part of the roof of the mouth and enough air does not reach your lungs. As you can well imagine it is a very risky thing to happen. It may take some time before your body wakes up due to this problem. As this can be happening and your body is asleep there is some chance of a person dying due to sleep apnea. Your body can only survive for 2-3 minutes without oxygen when you are awake, and it can turn fatal if you do not get oxygen within the time. And when one is sleeping the body is already relaxed and asleep, and you have to wake up .As a natural defense mechanism the body has to wake you up, this causes a conflict in the body's defense system and can result in death.

Studies show that sleep apnea occurs due to unwarranted relaxation in the individuals' throat muscles while sleeping. But you don't have to worry about the problem, as there is treatment available to assist in reversing the symptoms. You will be advised with some ways to solve the problem like the position you should sleep in, losing weight, exercise, avoid smoking and alcohol, some particular nasal machines or in the worst case surgery.

8 signs women over 40 shouldn’t ignore

Most minor discomfort is a sign of ... not much. Maybe you had a heavy meal, a stressful day, a hard workout — and by the next day you feel fine again. But a handful of trivial-sounding symptoms can sometimes be red flags for something more serious. Since it's often hard to distinguish between the no big deal and the dire, most of us err on the side of ignoring the problem and hoping it goes away. "Women in midlife are often juggling 20 things at once, so they tend to neglect their own health," says Nieca Goldberg, MD, author of "Dr. Nieca Goldberg's Complete Guide to Women's Health."
